MIDAS THINKING: Your thinking is where your true gold lies.
The Story of King Midas
King
Midas was a very kind man who ruled his kingdom fairly, but
he was not one to think
very deeply about what he said. One day, while walking in his
garden, he saw an elderly satyr asleep in the flowers. Taking
pity on the old fellow, King Midas let him go without punishment.
When the god Dionysus heard about it, he rewarded King Midas
by granting him one wish. The king thought for only a second
and then said. "I wish for everything I touch to turn to gold." And
so it was.
Now
King Midas' wish was well-intended but somewhat thoughtless.
He was indiscriminate--EVERYTHING he touched turned to
gold. There was no consciousness in that, no decision-making,
no choice. Life well-lived requires us to think carefully about
our values, our relationships and our choices. MIDAS THINKING--knowing
what we want to turn to gold comes from a conscious understanding
and evaluation of the life we desire.
Many
people reduce the moral of the King Midas story to wishing
for love is good and wishing for money is bad. The story offers
us so much more. King Midas was a kind and loving man. The reward
for one simple act was a great gift. His mindset at the moment
determined his grandiose and loving, but poorly thought through,
wish. He had the best of intentions and that was a terrific
start!
Let's
take the best from this story and learn how to see and create
gold in our lives. Stimulate your thinking and be ready for
a mindset shift that will help you focus on the gold in your
life.
Modify your thinking to create the gold you want in relationships, finance, career, health and joy.
